Today we were clearing the scrub and nettles from both sides of the main path up from Park Farm. The warmth of the weather and the effort made us grateful for the shady spots. Just off the path, Andy discovered another creature that favours shade, a newt found under a rotting log. The tiny creature was a long way from any water!
Thanks to everyone who gave their time today. It's amazing what volunteers armed with scythes, sickles, rakes and pitchforks can do in a such a short time. We cleared around 700 yards of this Banstead Wood path in a morning. Should keep it passable for the summer.
We are a self-funded group of volunteers looking after our local countryside in Banstead Wood and Chipstead Valley. We extend a warm welcome to those who would like to help maintain this important green space for the benefit of everyone. Here you will find details of WoodChips weekly tasks and activities. Check back soon to see what we're up to!
