In response to huge demand from volunteers (at least 3) here's an update on the length of our latest dead hedge.
While coppicing a portion of Banstead Wood near Holly Lane car park, we have now completed 182 metres (approx 200 yards) of dead hedge around the cleared space.
The work involves cutting back the old coppice and dead ash trees, using the resulting material as stakes, binders and filler for the dead hedge. Weather permitting, we are well on the way to finish this enclosure of the coppiced stools to protect the regrowth and surrounding wildlife habitat.

We are a self-funded group of volunteers looking after our local countryside in Banstead Wood and Chipstead Valley. We extend a warm welcome to those who would like to help maintain this important green space for the benefit of everyone. Here you will find details of WoodChips weekly tasks and activities. Check back soon to see what we're up to!
