Logging on to the Lagoon site

6/2/2020

Comments

Today our forces were divided for two tasks. While the old growth on the Lagoon surround was being scythed and raked off by one group, the other volunteers were putting together a new wildlife habitat pile a little way from the water's edge.

More than just a simple pile of logs, it is intended as a refuge and shelter for wildlife like insects, frogs, toads and newts, as an alternative to the somewhat exposed slopes of the Lagoon.

18 logs resulting from our recently completed coppicing were carried one by one down the hill from Banstead Wood to Holly Lane car park and then on to the Lagoon. There they were secured by wire and ground anchors to reduce the chance of being re-purposed by the more inventive public into jetties, rafts, bridges etc.
